Alabama Industrial Development Training, the state agency that oversees
employment screening and training for new and expanding industries, has been
recognized as the nation's best in Expansion Management magazine's annual
survey of more than 70 site-selection consultants.
AIDT jumped to No. 1 after last year's ranking of sixth-place in the
national trade magazine's poll.
"When we recruit companies to bring jobs to Alabama, our most important
selling point is the quality of our work force," Gov. Bob Riley said in a
prepared statement Monday. "Being ranked number one in work-force
development is a tremendous plus."
AIDT has been ranked among the top 10 in the nation since the magazine's
first survey was published in 1997. AIDT is affiliated with Alabama's
two-year college system, developing training programs for industries that
are moving into Alabama, as well as existing businesses that commit to the
creation of a minimum number of new jobs due to expansions. AIDT also
oversees the actual training of workers.
AIDT Director Ed Castille said the agency has worked with 3,500
organizations since it was created in 1971.
